The General Overseer of Victory Life Bible Church, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, has appealed to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, not to assent to the proposed Ogun State Safe Termination of Pregnancy Law, 2026, warning that it could encourage the loss of unborn lives.
Achudume made the appeal during a special thanksgiving service organised by the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to mark its 50th anniversary at the church’s headquarters along Abeokuta-Ajebo Expressway.
Describing the proposed legislation, H.B. No. 036/OG/2026, as a threat to the sanctity of human life, the cleric urged the governor to withhold his assent in the interest of preserving unborn children.
“For humanity’s sake, this bill should not be signed into law. We do not want any more shedding of blood. Let the child live,” he appealed.
He described Abiodun as a leader who values children and urged him to ensure that his decision reflects the importance of protecting human life.
Achudume also called on the Ogun NUJ to support the appeal, while commending the union for its contributions to journalism and press freedom in the state.
Earlier, Ogun NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, appreciated the church for its support and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to professionalism, unity and developmental journalism.
The thanksgiving service featured special prayers for journalists, Ogun State and Nigeria as part of activities marking the union’s Golden Jubilee.
