President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says his administration is shifting public borrowing away from short-term fiscal obligations and consumption towards productive infrastructure investments as part of efforts to build a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
In an article titled “From Reforms to Delivery: Our Infrastructure Investment and Growth Strategy,” the President said the strategy prioritises roads, railways, ports and electricity, with emphasis on fiscal discipline and measurable economic returns.
He identified major projects, including the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, Trans-Sahara Superhighway, electricity grid upgrades and the modernisation of major Lagos ports, as key components of the investment programme.
According to Tinubu, the projects are expected to improve connectivity, reduce transportation costs, boost agriculture and industrial activities, attract private investment and create jobs.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to avoiding deficit monetisation and unfunded financial commitments, stressing that public borrowing must deliver lasting economic benefits.
