Chelsea compounded Manchester United’s troubles with a convincing 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 31, handing Michael Carrick’s side a third consecutive defeat and extending their winless run to nine matches across all competitions.
United, who have now suffered four Premier League defeats this season, sit 16th on the table, just one point above the relegation zone, piling further pressure on Carrick.
Despite a promising first-half display, United failed to capitalise on their chances, with Matheus Cunha’s goal ruled out for offside and Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo missing key opportunities.
Chelsea took control five minutes after the break when Morgan Rogers fired past Mike Penders to open the scoring. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 64th minute after Lisandro Martinez was sent off for striking Wesley Fofana, with Cole Palmer converting the resulting penalty.
Chelsea could have added to their tally, but a disallowed Estêvão goal and other missed chances kept the score at 2-0. Bryan Mbeumo also struck the crossbar late on as United’s misery continued.
The victory lifts Chelsea to fourth place, while United risk slipping into the Premier League’s bottom three, with Carrick’s future increasingly uncertain.
