ABEOKUTA – In its bid to complement government efforts at providing medical services at the rural areas, a private health firm in Ogun state, HOB Medical Centre Ltd on Saturday embarked on free medical treatment for Imala/Elega community residents.
The free medical outreach focuses on Covid-19 test, Malaria test, BP Check, Tuberculosis, and Diabetes treatment.
The Medical Director, HOB Medical Centre, Dr. Adefuye Lukmon Adelaja said the free medical services were to cushion the lack of access to medical treatment by residents of the community.
Dr. Adefuye maintained that the people of the community are in dire need of medical services, but the majority of them cannot afford the treatment bill.
The Medical Director added the medical centre, disclosed that not less than 600 residents benefited from this year’s medical outreach which was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the hospital.
He said children under five years and above were given free malaria treatment, while many adults and aged were diagnosed with Diabetes, typhoid, and Hypertension.
He said, “By the virtue of the community in which I found myself as a Medical Doctor, I find out that the people here are in dire need of medical care and the truth is that not many of them can afford medical care and even when you refer them to a public hospital, like General Hospital or FMC, because of the crowd, they normally have this phobia.
“That is why at intervals, we tried and give back to the community. We thought of doing something free of charge to the community so that they can benefit since is not all time that everybody falls sick.
“We are looking at 500 beneficiaries, as you can see, we have overshot our target and we already have 600 now and as patients are getting in, they are informing those at home that it is real, you could see other people coming, that’s why we start on time, so the whole place will not be overcrowded.”
He thanked other partners, the Ogun State Ministry of Health and a Non-Governmental Organization, The Patriots for their support towards the success of the outreach.
One of the beneficiaries who spoke with our reporter, Joshiah Ishola commended the management of the hospital for providing free medical treatment for the people.
According to the Septuagenarian, the outreach has enabled him to manage his Blood pressure and gave him tips of early detection of the dreaded disease.
He urged the medical centre to make the free medical outreach quarterly in order to capture more less privileged in the society.
Mrs. Kabirat Ajala, a patient diagnosed with typhoid fever commended the initiative with a call on other private medical establishments to emulate the medical firm and render medical help to the downtrodden.
